THERE was no shortage of sirens and blue lights in Calne last Wednesday but it was all for a good cause as the Barnardos Children’s Centre held its emergency services day.

More than 350 people, including around 240 children, visited the children’s centre on Prince Charles Drive to play with host of visiting vehicles.

Children were able to look around a fire engine, a community first response car, a police car and spray water everywhere with the fire hose.

Georgina Knappe, team manager at the children's centre, said: “It was an absolutely wonderful day, people were really enjoying it, and it’s a really good experience getting the children used to the sounds of the sirens and stuff.

“It was busy but brilliant, lots of fun and very messy. It’s a really popular event which gives families the chance to find out more about the children’s centre and to do something together fun with their children.

“We’ve had lots of positive feedback from parents with one parent said it was a lovely and fantastic day, very enjoyable for children and families.”

As well as the exciting vehicles out in the sunshine, the children’s centre also played host to a teddy bear hospital, where children could bandage up their teddy bears, and welcomed the Wiltshire Scrap Store who helped youngsters make their own emergency services helmets.

Children could also get stuck into the Playdough and other craft activities in the hall while the visiting emergency services also delivered road safety information.
