THE proceeds of the Calne Rotary's Bowood 10k run in March have been donated to two Wiltshire charities.

The Wiltshire Victoria County History Trust and the Calne Welfare Charities both received £800 from the 27th running of the charity event which saw nearly 200 runners take part.

President of Calne Rotary, David Dillamore, played host to more than 60 guests at a presentation dinner at Bowood Country Club on Thursday (APR 23) to present the cheques to the charities.

Vicky Landell, secretary of the Wiltshire VCH Trust, spoke at the presentation on the ongoing work of the trust in documenting the history of Wiltshire. The charity had their funding from Wiltshire Council and the University of the West of England cut recently but were working hard to continue their work on the history of the county with a scoping study complete for a volume on Chippenham.

Calne Welfare Charities are a group of charities established to provide assistance to the people in Calne under three headings; the almshouses, providing accommodation at an affordable price, relief in need, supplying financial assistance in cases of need where conventional approaches have failed to help, and the advancement in life, providing grants to assist local people to further their career or aspirations.
