JOHN Bentley School in Calne has announced that Jason Tudor has been appointed as the school's new principal.

Mr Tudor, who is currently deputy head teacher at Archway School in Stroud, will take up the position from September and will be spending time at the school over the next two terms to familiarise himself with staff and students. 

He takes over from former principal Laura Carleton who resigned in December last year with acting principal Melanie Sutton continuing in her role until September.

Mr Tudor said: “I am delighted to be appointed as principal of The John Bentley School.

"I am excited at the prospect of working with such a dedicated team of staff and a Board of Governors who are so passionate about supporting the school in moving forward to even greater heights through inspiring excellence. 

"During my three days of interviews I was consistently impressed with the excellent attitudes exhibited by the pupils and I look forward to developing positive relationships with pupils, parents and carers as well as the wider community."

Mr Tudor joined Archway School in Stroud in 2011 whilst it was in special measures before helping it recieved a Good rating from school inspectors Ofsted in October 2013. 

At Archway, Mr Tudor is responsible for the leadership of teaching and learning, supporting teachers in delivering consistently excellent lessons.

He has also spoken at several national conferences on many educational topics.

He added: "I am a passionate champion of the power of excellent teaching and learning in creating new life opportunities for children and have been privileged enough to work on raising standards with schools across Gloucestershire.

"I am excited at the prospect of leading The John Bentley School over the forthcoming years and relish the challenges ahead."
