TEENAGER Dan Welling took the bold step of having his legs waxed on Thursday to raise money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Dan’s uncle, Richard Miller, a Wiltshire Air Ambulance critical care paramedic, joined students and teachers at Calne's John Bentley School to support the 14-year-old with his painful challenge.

Any pain or embarrassment didn't last too long, however, as Dan has helped his group surpass their £100 target and raise more than £150 for the charity.

Increasing awareness, raising money and giving a presentation on a charity of their choice are all part of the year 10 students’ GCSE Citizenship studies.

Assistant headteacher Will Ruscoe said: “It went really well and it was a good turnout, he was in a bit of pain but he’s raised over £100.

“It’s very different but they used their initiative and have been very successful with it. The nice thing was that they planned and implemented it all themselves.”

Approximately 150 year 10 students at the school are raising money for good causes as part of their studies with activities including a continuous bike ride, sponsored walks and cake sales.
