EVERY pupil from a Calne school who took part in cycling tests has shown they are safe to be on the road.

St Margaret’s Preparatory School scored a 100 per cent pass rate in Bikeability courses taken by all 32 pupils in Year 6.

Head of teaching and learning Sarah Chester said: “The children all passed both level one and level two after an intensive two day course. They spent the whole of the second day out on the roads and they did extremely well.

“They all really loved it and you could see them grow in confidence.”

She said that because of fears over busy roads not all children these days were allowed out on bikes.

She added: “In previous years some children when they started the course had never learnt to ride a bike. But this year they all had some experience.

"During the course they learnt how to look after their bikes mechanically as well as road safety.”

Bikeability is a Government backed project which is billed as cycling proficiency for the 21st century.
