Calne Leisure Centre is to be leased back to Wiltshire Council following a vote by shareholders yesterday evening.

The special general meeting took place at 7:30pm with the chair of the Calne Leisure Centre Board Kevin Wells confirming that out of over 200 votes only a few voted against the proposals.

The vote means that Wiltshire Council will become responsible for future management of the centre.

Mr Wells said: “I am pleased, it allows us to continue with negotiations with the council working towards a transfer.

“Customers won’t see any changes for the next few weeks or months during negotiations. The running of the centre will be the same, it will be a strange thing as it will seem like nothing is happening.”

A consultation between staff and Wiltshire Council will begin as work begins on transferring their employment.

The move should clear the way for significant capital investment at the site as part of the council’s community campus programme.
