A NEW enterprise project at Springfields Academy was launched on Thursday evening and raised more than £600.

Year 10 and 11 students at the academy for complex learning, emotional, social and behavioural difficulties had been working on the Christmas Bazaar since September.

ICT subject leader Louiza Bruce said: “Our students need stimulation and engagement and I wanted to offer a very varied curriculum.

“By doing a business enterprise it is teaching them about business etiquette and engaging with the community – it’s about making the work relevant to them.”

Students organised and advertised the event, sold stalls and raffle tickets, as well as calculating income and expenditure using spreadsheets.

Year 11 student Matthew Crosby said: “Students are learning how to run an event and a profitable enterprise. It’s been great.”

The money raised will be reinvested into the curriculum for the benefit of students.
