A website designed in Hilmarton has become one of the UK’s top online resources for school leavers in just two years.

When the deadline for university applications approaches, Stephen Newall’s website will get nearly 250,000 visitors a month.

Mr Newall, 26, who went to Millfield School in Somerset, suffers from severe dyslexia and struggled to trawl through the information available to school leavers.

So the business entrepreneur set up his own website offering information on universities, courses, apprenticeships, open days and personal statements.

He said: “Everything is on one site, giving students a lot of options very easily.

“I struggled to work out if university was for me and if it was where I would go. I also wondered about the possibility of apprenticeships, work experience and work placements.”

Mr Newall attended Millfield School in Somerset up to GCSE, completed a year in Scotland before finishing his education in Canada.

He launched the website – www.getting-in.com – at the age of 24 and now has offices in Oxford and Hilmarton.

The website is backed by an outside investor and hires four staff and two web developers.

It offers information on university courses and apprenticeship opportunities, providing impartial advice.

The challenge facing Mr Newall now is whether he will be able to make the site both free and profitable.

He said: “It will eventually turn into a business but it’s not our priority, our aim is to just keep growing. I am very excited by the future.”
