CHILDREN at Sunny Days Pre-school in Calne showed their support for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal by raising more than £50 last Friday with a First World War fancy dress day.

Each child who dressed up donated £1 to the charity with many also bringing cakes for a cake sale.

The nursery was also visited by Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Webb OBE MC from the Royal Welsh infantry regiment who spoke about his experiences in the armed forces.

Lt Col Webb said: “It’s great to talk to them; the forces are really well supported by the community in Wiltshire in particular.

“I am sure some of them have families who are in the military, with all the commemorations going on they will be picking stuff up and it’s nice to be able to put something back to the community.”

Sunny Days have had First World War lessons throughout the past week with staff bringing in photos of family members for a special remembrance display.

The nursery has recently undergone a major refurbishment with a new bright feel and new furniture expected before Christmas.
