Unwanted clothes collected by a Calne school will help the environment and raise money for science equipment.

Pupils at St Margaret’s Preparatory School brought in more than 100 bags of textiles for collection as part of a scheme organised by EDF Energy and The British Science Association.

St Margaret’s has its own eco-committee to promote awareness of green issues and to raise money for environmental projects in the school.

Year 6 teacher and committee chairman Sarah Beach said: “The school was first awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag in November 2010 and maintains green credentials by continually looking at school resources and how efficiently they are being used.

“The renewal of the Green Flag is every two years and we work hard to keep up the level of environmental awareness that we have attained.

“Following the previous success of our Bags2School collection, we once again took part in a collection of waste textiles. As well as enabling the purchase of the equipment for our school, the textile collection will also help the environment by reducing landfill.”
