Nursery boss Rachel Cartmell says she has lost everything following the enforced closure of her business.

The Little Angels Nursery in Calne closed six weeks ago after it had its registration suspended in August by Government education watchdog, Ofsted, following the arrest of a 37-year-old woman.

Police have not said what the woman has been arrested on suspicion of.

The nursery received a good rating when it was inspected by Ofsted on May 27 this year.

Mrs Cartmell released a statement when the nursery received its suspension in August to say that she had not been arrested.

An Ofsted spokesperson said yesterday: “This nursery has resigned its registration and is now closed.

“Ofsted will continue to help the police and council with the investigation.”

Mrs Cartmell said yesterday that she had not been told anything about the investigation and she was forced to put the company into liquidation last week.

“You can’t keep a nursery and pay the staff when your licence has been suspended,” she said.

“I do not blame the parents, that’s the reason why they have left, the staff have had to find other jobs.

“Liquidated, staff will get redundancy paid, and parents will get money.

“I felt that was the safest way.

“I have lost everything I had put my heart and soul into the business.”

Mrs Cartmell said she is not angry, but added ‘there’s no part of my life that will ever be the same ever again’.

“I do not think we are going to find out what happened for a long time,” she said.
