Pupils at St Mary’s in Calne have helped to raise £11,500 for The Armed Forces Fund by performing at an opera night in London last week.

The youngsters, from the school’s opera ensemble and chamber choir, joined Welsh singer Aled Jones at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall for the evening on March 5.

They were welcomed by six guardsmen in full uniform with bear skins and enjoyed an evening of classical music.

Bethan Dudley, director of vocal studies at St Mary’s, also performed, as well as Kamila Radzvilaite, the school’s musician in residence.

The event was organised by the Calne Foundation Trust, a trust that helps to support pupils at St Mary’s and St Margaret’s and raises money for charity.

The funds will go to The Armed Forces Fund, which provides for the education of children of forces personnel.
