Louise Hunt’s final two tournaments before her Paralympic Games debut in London have seen the Wiltshire player reach her third ITF 1 Series doubles semi-final of the season at the Belgian Open and finish runner-up in the women’s consolation final at the British Open.

Hunt’s British Open began with a tough draw against fellow Brit Lucy Shuker, a contest that world numer nine Shuker won 6-2, 6-1, but Hunt went on to beat Canada’s Yuka Chokyu and Colombia’s Johana Martinez in straight sets to reach the consolation final of the Super Series event before she was edged out 6-3, 6-3 by Japan’s Kanako Domori.

Hunt then reached the quarter-finals of the ITF 1 Series Belgian Open before bowing out 6-1, 6-1 to Belgium’s world number seven Annick Sevenans, and partnered American Emmy Kaiser to the last four of the women’s doubles, where the duo gave the top seeds a fright. Hunt and Kaiser eventually bowed out to Shuker and Sevenans 7-5, 6-3.

“You know what, I’m really happy with how I’m playing and I can’t wait for the Paralympics” said Hunt, who is part of the Tennis Foundation’s Wheelchair Tennis Performance Team.

“It was unfortunate to draw Lucy at the British Open, but that was the second time in three years that I’ve played the higher ranked Japanese player in the consolation final in Nottingham and they’ve both been close matches.

“When I played Annick in Belgium the match was a lot closer than the score suggests.

“A lot of the games went to deuce and I came off court feeling that I’d played as well as I could and it was more that she didn’t allow me to play my game. The doubles was great too.

“I love playing with Emmy and we both played well to take Lucy and Annick close.”

The London 2012 Paralympics start on Wednesday, with eight days of wheelchair tennis competition starting on September 1 at the purpose-built Eton Manor venue in the Olympic Park.
