Post offices told closing dates
DOOMED post offices in Chippenham will all close on April 2 and have publicised this date despite the Post Office remaining tight-lipped.
The Prospect post office in Corsham, Kington St Michael post office and the Lowden branch will all cease trading on the same day.
Despite postmasters all being told the date, the Post Office told the Gazette they would not publish the closing dates until a week beforehand.
A spokesman said: "We intend to send out posters for the post offices to display in their windows about a week or so before they will close.
"We are still working through all of the paperwork at the moment and do not wish to confirm any dates.
"The branches will be told in due course and we will try and not to delay this.
"There is no way of appealing against this decision and is a result of months of hard work."
The closures in Chippenham seem to be the earliest in the county.
The Charlton post office wont close until May 21 and the Hullavington branch will remain open until May 25.
Sandra Pickard, 88, has used the Lowden branch for years and is furious that loyal customers have not been informed of the closing date.
She said: "All the money we spend in there and they don't have the decency to tell us when it will close.
"I am not sure what I will do because it takes me long enough to walk to this branch let alone one further away.
"It is shocking how the Post Office has treated us and I will definitely take my custom elsewhere."
