West Wiltshire feels the sting of post office closures

Four post offices in west Wiltshire face closures in April.

Those marked for the chop are: The Bell on the Common in Broughton Gifford, Peace Memorial Road in North Bradley, Queens Square in Westbury and Seymour Road in Trowbridge.

Another branch earmarked for closure, but still under review by Postwatch, is The Obelisk in Silver Street, Warminster.

Four further branches will be replaced with 'outreach' services in Hullavington, Wylye, Heytesbury and Longbridge Deverill.

The closures will come into force in April and follow a six-week public consultation by Postwatch, the consumer body representing Post Office customers.

Tim Nicholls, Post Office Ltd's network development manager for West Berkshire and Wiltshire, said: "These are difficult decisions which have not been taken lightly.

"We have considered very carefully all the comments made during the public consultation.

"We believe that the amended plan announced today offers our customers across West Berkshire and Wiltshire and the best prospect for a sustainable network in the future, bearing in mind the Government's minimum access criteria and the other factors the Government has asked us to consider."
