New allotments in Pewsey
Alex Carder & Terry Eyles open the new Pewsey allotments.

EVERYTHING'S coming up roses in Pewsey - and runner beans, tomatoes and cabbages.

The parish council officially opened its new allotments at the rear of Pewsey Sports Centre on Saturday, the culmination of a project that began in the autumn of 2006.

The council used its Christmas fair that year to hold a public consultation, which identified a need for smaller plots, and this was put into the project.

The parish council had seen an increase in the amount of local people wishing to take on allotments and there was a long waiting list, with vacancies few and far between at its other sites at Wilcot Road and Easterton Lane.

Waiting times had increased to over a year, so something had to be done quickly.

Coun Terry Eyles, chairman of the council's environment committee, approached Pewsey Vale School, the landlords of the site. A lease was completed in November last year and the land was levelled by local builders, AG Builders.
