Beware, thieves lurking

POLICE in Pewsey are warning drivers and tourists not to leave any valuables in cars parked at beauty spots.
PC Mark Fiander Lewis, manager of the rural beat covering the Pewsey Vale, said that the car thieves take advantage of the tourist season.
He said: "With lighter evenings and summer fast approaching, and the promise of great days out to enjoy some of the places of outstanding natural beauty that Wiltshire has to offer, there are some who are happily planning to
spoil your day.
"Thieves are known to target beauty spots around the county and your car could be next.
"If you leave valuables in full view you are simply tempting a thief to help themselves.
"Scenic areas are vulnerable to theft because the places are often isolated and much of the time there is no-one around to witness thefts."
PC Fiander Lewis advised motorists to leave their car where it is overlooked from the road, a neighbouring building or an area such as a picnic site where they would be other people around.
He urged drivers to try to park near to other vehicles and make sure they remove portable satellite navigation systems and their mounts.
"Do not leave items of value in glove compartments, under the seat or in the boot because thieves know where to look," added the officer.
