New post box allow residents to send comments to police
 |
| Maria Cope (PSCO), Dermot Hackett (PSCO and Coop Manager) and PC Emma Brown with the police letterbox where local people can post comments |
PEOPLE living in the Pewsey Vale who wish to contact the police on a non urgent matter now have a special post box to use.
The metal post box has just been installed in the Co-op in Pewsey.
The box, jointly sponsored by the Co-op and
Woottons of Pewsey hardware store has been erected by the notice board just inside the supermarket.
The Co-op has excellent links with the police as two of its staff are special constables in Wiltshire.
The store manager Dermot
Hackett is a special at Devizes and Maria Cope
is a member of the on the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Pewsey where she lives.
WPC Emma Brown, NPT manager for Pewsey, said : "The post box has been installed in the hope that local people will
pass information about their community to the local police.
"The location has been carefully chosen so that people can simply drop a
note in the box when they are doing their shopping.
"The boxes will be
emptied by police or community support officers to ensure that any
information put in there is secure."
WPC Brown said: "Neighbourhood policing
is very much geared towards communities working with their local police
officers.
" We understand that people may not feel comfortable passing
information directly to us, but we also know that the community is our
eyes and ears and we hope that people will make use of this simple but
useful resource."
She was responsible for the provision of similar boxes in and around Marlborough where she was previously based.
WPC Brown's Pewsey team includes PCSO
Kelly Watts and a dedicated group of special constables.
The Post Box
is also available for use by residents of other local villages who use
the Coop.
Information received from the villages around Pewsey will be passed to
PC Mark Fiander-Lewis and his NPT comprising PCSO Coralie Nash and specials.
PC Fiander-Lewis said: "Information from the public is a valuable
resource and particularly in the close communities that we police where
local people care about their villages and their neighbours."
The new post box is not for reporting crimes and people should still use the Wiltshire force contact line 0845 408 7000 and continue to dial 999 in emergencies.
Police post boxes in Marlborough can be found in Waitrose, the Leisure Centre, the Londis shop in St Margarets Mead and Portfields Stores.
