Son set to face trial for arson

A MAN accused of setting fire to his parents' home in Milton Lilbourne is to be tried by a jury.

Lawrie Osbourne, 27, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday when he pleaded not guilty to arson with intent to endanger life on October 4 last year.

Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service received a 999 call shortly before 6am.

Despite the efforts of more than 20 fire fighters from Marlborough, Pewsey and Devizes, the wooden bungalow was left a burnt-out shell.

A sniffer dog from the Avon Fire and Rescue Service was brought in to help establish where the fire started.

Osbourne, his parents Graham and Jenny and his brother Russell escaped from the building in their nightclothes.

Most of their possessions were destroyed.

On Friday Lawrie Osbourne was remanded in custody until April 7 when he is due to face trial before a judge and jury.
