Four men charged with staged robbery

Four men have appeared at the crown court charged with being involved in a staged armed robbery at a supermarket.

Jamie Antal, a supervisor at the Malmesbury Co-op, is accused of conspiring to steal almost £10,000 in cash and cigarettes from the store.

The 19-year-old is also charged with possession of an imitation firearm and perverting the course of justice.

Appearing in the dock alongside him were David Locke-Wheaton, 25, Brian Jones, 20, and Darren Jones, 24. All are from Swindon.

They are also charged with conspiracy to steal and possessing an imitation firearm on Sunday April 6.

No charges were put to the men during the brief hearing at Swindon crown court and they only spoke to confirm their names.

Antal, of Beech Avenue, Locke-Wheaton, of Inglesham Road, Penhill, and Brian Jones, of Redlynch Close, Penhill, were released on conditional bail.

Darren Jones, of Cleverton Court, Penhill, was remanded in custody.

The case was adjourned t Friday June 13 when the men are due to enter their pleas to the charges.

Police received a 999 call from the supermarket at about 9.30pm on Sunday April 6 when a member of staff said he had been victim of a robbery.
