Walkers honour Chippenham stalwart
 |
| Anne Diamond, Christine Bullock and Russell Harding join 60 other walkers to raise money for hospitals in memory of Bob Bullock who died last year. |
CELEBRITY slimmer Anne Diamond was joined by nearly 60 walkers to celebrate the life of Chippenham charity stalwart Bob Bullock.
The group, who had all been sponsored to take part, walked from Malmesbury to Chippenham on Sunday April 13, which would have been Bob's sixtieth birthday.
Anne, famed for her diet campaigns and various TV programmes, went to school with Bob's widow Christine, 54, of Holmes Close, Pewsham.
Anne said: "The walk was in honour of a very brave man who did his best to ensure that those around him didn't worry.
"Laughter used to echo from his room when friends visited, as you know he had a wicked sense of humour.
"The walk honours his and his twins sixtieth birthday and is very symbolic in that it is from the town he was born and enjoyed a happy childhood to the town his parents moved to in his teens.
"Bob was a big football fan and so we honoured him with a minutes applause."
Granddad-of-three Mr Bullock died of lung cancer in October last year, just two years after diagnosis.

He was determined to live until his sixtieth birthday, having lost both his parents to cancer in their late 50s.
Sadly he died six months short of his goal.
Mr Bullock was a well-known face around Chippenham most notably for setting up the charity action group The Pheasant Pluckers.
Most of Mr Bullock's family joined the 58 walkers on the day, including his 12-year-old granddaughter Charlotte, who presented Anne with a bouquet of flowers.
Mrs Bullock said: "It was a great day and it paid testament to Bob's memory.
"We had a brilliant turn out and everyone has been so supportive.
"I am not sure yet how much money we have raised but I think it will be in the region of £5,000 to £10,000.
"The money raised will go towards hospital equipment as a thank you to those who cared for Bob - I just wanted to show my appreciation for everything the doctors and nurses did.
"I was thrilled to bits when Anne said that she would take part - the speech was really motivational and put us all in the right frame of mind.
"I would really like to thank everyone who took part for their support - Bob would have been so proud."
Mr Bullock is collecting donations in her husband's memory until the end of May.
Anyone wanting to make a donation can send a cheque payable to Bob Bullock's Memorial Walk to the Gazette's Chippenham office or click here to email Mrs Bullock.
