Disco a big success
On Saturday I went to Westlea Housing Association and the police's attempt to reduce anti-social behaviour by providing the youth of Chippenham with something else to do, known as Bluez n' Zuz, situated centrally at the Olympiad, with a £2 entrance fee from 7pm to 9.30pm.
It was a good disco where only soft drinks were on sale. The entrance tickets were put into a bucket for prizes, which included an iPod and a PSP.
Sweets in bags were handed out by GWR radio. Sergeant Martin Alvis and Acting Sergeant Andrew Morley plus several police community support officers, staff from Westlea and GWR were present.
It is hoped that this event will happen once a month at hopefully the same venue in Chippenham.
I have discussed with Sergeant Martin Alvis and Shirley Davies, the head of neighbourhood services of Westlea, some thoughts on sponsorship and venues.
I was very surprised that other Chippenham councillors did not look in to find out what this event involved or to witness the large number of young people that were there. My congratulations go to the police and to Westlea Housing for sponsoring the event.
Councillor Nina Phillips,
Redland Ward,
Chippenham
