Enough is enough
2:51pm Thursday 8th May 2008
I feel that I must defend Mrs King in her quest to have the likes of Robbie Hayter removed from the Letters pages of the Gazette. There are far too many such letters, doing nothing but provoking discussion and debate, from such people.

Keep our cash here
2:50pm Thursday 8th May 2008
So the Wiltshire Air Ambulance is likely to be based at Filton and it will no longer be available at night, unlike the present service, run from Devizes.

Town may play host to unwanted homes
2:43pm Thursday 8th May 2008
There is little doubt that the future of Devizes is in the hands of developers. Their responsibility is to their shareholders and those responsibilities are discharged by accountants.

Shared deal works
2:47pm Thursday 8th May 2008
Last week's article Shared helicopter deal under threat' said that the Great Western Ambulance Service is considering a using a dedicated ambulance helicopter rather than sharing with the police. It also noted that it would not then be able to fly at night, it could only operate under Visual Flight Rules - or in good visibility.

Bring back our bin!Bring back our bin!
11:24am Fri 2 May 08
This is just to say how cross I am that after the council tax has risen again, we have been told that one of our rubbish bins that sits on a public path (a direct route to school) has been removed. The reason being it is overused, too many people are using it for dog poo. I understand that it is not the right bin but now people have nowhere to put it and the footpath is now filling up with poo.

Come down to fayre
11:23am Friday 2nd May 2008
A gentle reminder that the Devizes Lions will be holding their May Fayre on Monday May 5 from 9.30am with entertainment, refreshments and the opportunity for retail therapy for all the family. Come and join us but please note that this year we will be operating in the Market Place and not the Wharf as in previous years.

We need open space
11:22am Friday 2nd May 2008
I am appalled at the preposterous idea of concrete and plastic structures being put up on Marlborough Common for the golf club. Common land is for the use of the whole town and ours is used all day and every day. The original common has been hugely eroded by the existing golf course, rugby pitches and the ever-expanding model aeroplane site.

Bid to oust club?
11:21am Friday 2nd May 2008
Perhaps Marlborough Golf Club will be happy when it occupies the whole of Marlborough Common. Watch out the Rugby Club.

No theatrics here

As the writer of what she refers to as "inconsequential letters", it's obvious that I'm not exactly the flavour of the month with Joan King.

Keep on writing
11:19am Friday 2nd May 2008
on the letter of Joan King last week about Robbie Hayter's "inconsequential" letters. Having lived in Devizes all my life, my sister and I and lots of our friends look forward to these articles. We all grew up in the Avenues and went to school together. It's nice to read his views and to reminisce about Devizes as it was then, a nice quiet little town, with a real community spirit.
