The launch of a new Ladbrokes branch in Westbury has raised £150 for Help For Heroes.

The bookies moved into the town’s High Street on Saturday and gave the town’s mayor, Christine Mitchell, a free £100 bet for Help For Heroes.

The wager went on Arteus in the 3.40pm at Kempton on Saturday and although the horse failed to win, Ladbrokes has still given the £150 to the military charity.

Cllr Mitchell said: “Ladbrokes is an established firm, well run and the people are lovely so you can’t ask for more than that. I’m not a betting woman. The last time I put a bet on, actually someone put it on for me, was when Red Rum won the Grand National.”
