The police helicopter spent several hours in the air over the Broadleas area of Devizes yesterday evening after a burglary at a house in Hartmoor Road.
Police cars were positioned at the top of Broadleas Road while the helicopter hovered over the Old Park area.
It is believed burglars struck at the home of elderly people around 7.30pm.

Cost of keeping helicopter in the air? Was the helicopter actually instrumental in apprehending the culprit(s)? Value of items stolen? Equation? Could same end result have been achieved without the helicopter?

maybe grumpyoldcynic should have his house broken into. Helicopter cannot catch them every time, but money well spent in trying to catch these people who make peoples lives a misery.

Chill out Grumpyoldcynic and find out the facts first before you comment. I think you'll find the helicopter is paid for the year by the Police. So it's better for it to be in the air than on the ground. I'm sure if you were getting broken into or your car was stolen you would wish to receive every help possible from the Police. I feel our Police Force in Wiltshire do an excellent job, Keep it up.

"..find out the facts first before you comment."
The point is, there are no facts of substance in this 3 sentance report.
The last sentance sums it up a treat..

More toys for the police, Helicopters, cameras, radar guns, real guns, batons, tear gas, Tazars and Phasars, all paid for by US. Thank goodness then crime is falling.
Isn't it???
