VIP guest for Devizes police disco

High Sheriff of Wiltshire Madeline Wilks will be attending the Devizes Bluez N Zuz disco as guest of honour next Friday night.

The Wiltshire and Swindon Crime Beat scheme headed up by the High Sheriff has kindly pledged funding for the disco's for a further 12 months.

As reported last month, incidents of antisocial behaviour have dropped in Devizes following the introduction of Bluez N Zuz which provides young people a fun night out each month.

It is hoped that there will be an even larger turnout for the May event where 12 to 15-year-olds can meet friends and dance to the latest music in a safe and supervised environment. The discos have proved so popular that last month over 170 young people attended and with many of the children attending regularly, the Neighbourhood Policing Team are able to build positive relationships with them.

The police supervised bus service continues to provide free transport for the children to and from the event. On Friday the lucky winners of the star prize from the April event will arrive in style in a stretch limousine provided by A Class Limousines of Trowbridge.

With entry only £2.00, a soft drink included, and the chance to win fantastic prizes such as iPods and mobile phones in the dance competition, this event promises to be a good one.

Community Beat Manager, PC Adam Hall said: "We are very grateful to all our sponsors and delighted that the High Sheriff and Crime Beat will continue their support of the event in Devizes."

PC Hall continued: "My team are all looking forward to the disco and would encourage any young people who haven't been before to come along and join in the fun."
