Swindon worker defrauded Nationwide

Harshad Gohil ,who cheated his employer the Nationwide building society out of thousands of pounds could face a jail term.

Gohil, 52, of The Bramptons, Shaw, claimed scores of hours of overtime which he did not work from the Nationwide building society.

Now he could end up behind bars after admitting plundering the cash from the Pipers Way based firm.

Gohil pleaded guilty to two counts of obtaining a money transfer by deception, one of fraud.

He asked for seven other matters to be taken into consideration when he appeared before a judge at Swindon crown court.

Gohil received £1,645.19p after falsely claiming he did 37.5 hours of overtime for Nationwide between Tuesday August 1 and Wednesday August 9, 2006.

He then claimed for 69.5 hours overtime he did not do between Tuesday December 26, 2006 and Friday January 5 last year got £3,049.08p.

The fraud charge relates to him saying he did 79.5 hours of overtime between Thursday April 26 and Thursday May 10.

Rob Ross, defending, asked the court to putt off passing sentence on his client so the probation service can compile a pre-sentence report on him.

Judge Douglas Field adjourned the matter to Friday June 6 and released Gohil to unconditional bail.

Lynne Henderson, prosecuting, told the court that the Crown would be seeking a confiscation order under the Proceeds of Crime Act to get back the money he illicitly claimed.

These are excellent overtime rates....
£1645 / 37.5 = £43.87/hr
£3049 / 69.5 = £ 43.87/hr

This equates to £88,000 p.a. (better than an MP)
Hope Nationwide don't follow Northern Rock.

The old story, he was too greedy. A few hours here and there, he might well have never been noticed, but almost 70 hours over Chrismas and New Year????

Sounds like a contractor to me....Nationwide doesn't pay anything like that!
