Sixth former’s bid for Miss England
MODEL LOOKS: Harriet Letheren will show clubwear and evening wear at the heats for Miss England
MODEL LOOKS: Harriet Letheren will show clubwear and evening wear at the heats for Miss England

DEVIZES School sixth former Harriet Letheren is vying for a place in the final of Miss England.

Harriet, 18, is one of 13 girls in the final of Miss ModelZed, a national heat for Miss England.

The competition is based on beauty and personality. At the final on May 31 in Leicester, Harriet will be modelling evening wear and club wear.

This is the first time that Harriet, of Six Eyles Road, Devizes, has entered a modelling competition.

She is studying A-levels in business, health and social care and PE, and works part time as a supervisor at Superdrug in the Market Place.

In the last year Harriet has completed a Community Sports Leader Award in which she taught primary school children in Devizes rugby, hockey and football.

She moved to Devizes six years ago from Wales with her parents, Kerry and Kevin Gover, and younger sister Jemima, 12, who goes to Devizes School.

Her mother works at police headquarters in Devizes and her father works in computing.

Harriet, who has a boyfriend, is planning to take a gap year after her A-level studies to work and travel.

Harriet raised the £200 sponsorship needed for the competition from family and friends.

She said: "I would like to thank everyone who contributed. When I was told I had made it to the final I thought it was a joke. I always thought fashion shows were quite outdated but it's really good fun.

"I'm thinking of studying business at university after my gap year but maybe modelling might take off for me."

Bridal and Fabric Heaven, based in Folly Road, Devizes, is lending Harriet a ball gown and jewellery for the final.

Harriet is appealing for people to support her in the competition by text voting for her on the Miss England website www.modelzed. miss-england.co.uk. Once on this site go on to contestants. The votes will be added to the judges' own votes.
