Malmesbury pub shuts its doors
12:00pm Sunday 19th August 2012 in Local By Victoria Ashford
Speculation is mounting following the closure of a pub in Malmesbury.
The Three Cups, on The Triangle, shut down last week after selling off the remainder of its alcohol supplies.
Pubwatch chairman Carol Hudson said: “The Three Cups has closed down and the landlord has gone.
“It belongs to Enterprise Inns. We hope they’ll keep it as a pub but in this day and age you don’t know.
“The place sold out of stock at the weekend. The landlord moved out and was trying to sell the lease.”
Although no sign has gone up to inform punters of the closure, the door to the pub is closed and the curtains have been drawn.
Amy Dolphin, a spokesman for Enterprise Inns, said the company was investigating the closure.
“We have not ourselves closed the pub and we are hoping for it to be trading as soon as possible,” she said.
The pub closure follows news that the landlord of the Guildhall Bar in Oxford Street has agreed to conform to the same opening hours as the Borough Arms after both pubs came under scrutiny from Wiltshire Council licencing committee in January.
The Guildhall Bar appealed against the decision but last week came to an agreement with the authority to open from Monday to Saturday, 11am-midnight, as opposed to 1.30am, and noon-midnight on Sundays, according to police sergeant Martin Alvis. Under 18s have also be banned from entering the pub.

Who are all these people who don't have to get up for work and can afford to drink until the early hours?
What do they do for a living and where do I apply?
