Quakers join monks’ walk

Devizes Quakers are to join a peace march by a group of Japanese Buddhists from Milton Keynes who are protesting against the use of nuclear power in Britain.

Monks from the Nippon-zan Myohoji Peace Pagoda will walk from the nuclear weapons establishment at Aldermaston to Hinkley Point nuclear reactor.

They leave Aldermaston on August 23 to march from Marlborough to Devizes on August 25. Members of the Religious Society of Friends from the Quakers Meeting House in Sussex Wharf, Devizes, will meet them at Beckhampton roundabout and walk with them the seven miles to Devizes.

To help, call Robin Brookes, former chairman of the defunct Devizes Peace and Justice Group, on (01380) 812294.

So are they protesting against nuclear power, nuclear weapons or both?
