Police in witness plea over Chippenham stolen bikes

Police are appealing for information after two specialised bikes worth close to £6,000 were stolen from a garage in Argyle Drive, Chippenham, on Friday.

The theft is believed to have taken place between Thurs-day evening and 1.15pm on Friday.

The bicycles – a Rocky Mountain Vertex 90 RSL in black, red and white worth £3,200 and a BMC Pro Machine SLC 01 Ultegra 2011 worth £2,700 – were taken after access was gained through the garage door.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who has any information about the theft, saw anyone in the area acting suspiciously or who may have been offered either of the bikes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Dave Hunt of the Priority Crime Team in Melksham on 101 ext 728505. Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.

Please no one take this wrong im not an outsider i do live in chippenham and have done my whole life. But half of the population of chippenham would steal from their mums so this isnt surprising. People in chippenham we are not allowed nice things anymore. And i bet that the bikes were sold and the money was spent on drugs/alcohol because thats all chippenham is good for anymore.

Fully agree with vodo90, I have lived in the Wiltshire area for the past 50 years and 35 in Chippenham. Chippenham has changed like most other Wiltshire towns in that petty crime is on the increase, I expect that the bikes that was stolen are now long gone and never to be traced again.

Could well turn up on ebay, in parts or whole, many do.

If you have a nice bike it needs chaining to the ground in your shed or garage with a minimum 10mm square boron hardened steel chain and a quality padlock such as an abloy. £70 well spent as the average thief will not be carrying an industrial angle grinder and even if he does, you'll here him.
