Repairs to affect parking

Residents in Victoria Road, Devizes, face up to ten weeks of parking restrictions when work gets under way on gas mains.

Wales and West Utilities is replacing old metal pipes with non-corroding plastic pipes with a lifespan of more than 80 years.

The work will begin on Tuesday and is expected to last eight to ten weeks.

Trenches will be dug on both sections of the road from the top of Victoria Road to its junction with Sedgefield Gardens, meaning no parking will be allowed in that section.

A spokesman for the gas company said the work was essential and was part of a multi-million pound, 30-year replacement programme across the region.

She said: “In order to carry out the work safely it has been agreed with the local highways authority that it will be necessary to introduce parking restrictions on Victoria Road for sections of the scheme.

“Our representatives have visited local residents to notify them of the work and the associated traffic management and also contacted them by letter.

“We have also held consultations with members of the local council to keep them informed of our plans.

“We would like to thank local residents and businesses for their co-operation while this essential work is carried out.”
