Chippenham to land new fishing lakes at Stanley Park

Chippenham Town Council will be causing a splash at Stanley Park Sports Ground after agreeing to provide fishing lakes on 10 acres of undeveloped land.

The project has been several years in the planning and follows detailed discussions with the development partner Churngold Recycling Limited, who will be constructing the lakes.

Chippenham Town Council will be working with Churngold and its agents to progress the project, which in time should see three fishing lakes in addition to a further football pitch.

The Town Council will also be inviting a further private partner to invest in the site and manage the lakes on its behalf.

Matthew Kendrick, Director of Grassroots Planning, the agents acting on behalf of Churngold Recycling said: "We are pleased to be working with Chippenham Town Council to deliver this exciting project which will provide high quality fishing lakes for all of the town's residents.

"Following the completion of technical studies we hope to consult with local residents and submit a planning application later in the year."

Adrian Jones, Head of Service Delivery at Chippenham Town Council said: "The Town Council’s vision is bold and ambitious and it is really exciting that a decision has been made to deliver new lakes in the town, particularly when fishing is the most popular sport in England.

"The lakes will add a different dynamic to the existing sports facilities and will broaden the sites appeal as a visitor destination. The lakes will seek to appeal to both the coarse and game angler. The Town Council are looking forward to developing the project in partnership with Churngold and whoever is successfully selected to manage the fishing lakes."
