Extended weekend of events for Box

Box will be holding celebrations to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee at the beginning of June.

The event will run from Friday, June 1, to Tuesday, June 5, and organisers in Box will be erecting a marquee on the recreation ground as a focal point for celebrations.

Box Revels has been postponed because the May Bank Holiday was put back for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and the event usually takes place over that long weekend.

Organisers have decided to donate the funds normally used for the event to ensure the Jubilee does not go unnoticed in Box.

Committee member Iain Kemp said: “Everyone enjoys the revels but, with an extra bank holiday to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, we wanted to find a way for as many community groups as possible to get in on the celebrations in Box.”

The celebrations will begin in the marquee on the evening of Friday, June 1, with live music and a hog roast in the marquee.

Throughout the weekend there will be a full programme of events, including a tea dance and a barn dance, with festivities coming to a close with a picnic on Tuesday, June 5.

Organisers have asked villagers to decorate their homes over the long weekend to get into the Jubilee spirit.
