Four runners from Devizes, who ran in the 2007 London Marathon, are running again this year.

The four – all members of Hickey’s Harriers running group – are raising money for a variety of charities.

Roy Perrett of Poulshot will be running his fourth, and likely last, London Marathon.

Mr Perrett, 49, a performance manager at Wiltshire Police, said: “In 2007 the temperature was 25 degrees celsius so I am hoping for a milder day. My personal best is 3.31 and I’m hoping to beat that.”

Ex-Royal Navy radio operator Mr Perrett is raising money for Help for Heroes and the Gazette’s campaign to build a personnel recovery centre in Tidworth.

He is also raising money for Elizabeth Lodge, a home run by the charity Liveability for disabled adults in Trowbridge, where his brother, Craig, 42, lives. Mr Doherty is raising money for Cancer Research UK and Miss Hickey for QUIT, a charity that helps people to stop smoking.

Mr Doherty hopes to complete the race in four hours while Miss Hickey would like to achieve a time of 3.40.

Miss Hickey is the daughter of Barry Hickey, the former headteacher of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Devizes and who set up Hickey’s Harriers.
