Beautician from Easterton is in line for top title

Beauty therapist Megan Bowyer of Easterton is through to the county round of the Miss England contest.

Miss Bowyer, 21, is in the line up of 25 women vying for the title of Miss Swindon/Wiltshire after progressing through a heat a few weeks ago in Swindon.

She said: “I just applied for the competition to see where it would take me and I feel I have come out of nowhere to get through.

“A lot of the other girls who have entered the competition have done modelling before.

“The only modelling I have done prior to this competition is of 6X clothing for Wadworth Brewery in Devizes for their catalogue in 2005.

“At the heat in Swindon I had my picture taken, was interviewed by a panel of judges and modelled. I found it quite competitive and nerve wracking having to walk around in front of people and speak to the judges.”

The former Lavington and Devizes School pupil was encouraged to enter the competition by a colleague at the hair and beauty salon, Talk of the Town, in Old Town, Swindon.

Dark blonde haired Miss Bowyer regularly attends exercise classes at Devizes Leisure Centre and is a brown belt in judo.

She lives with her parents, Martin and Sally, who own a carpentry and joinery business, and younger sister Harriet and brother Charlie.

The final of Miss Swindon/Wiltshire is on May 9 at Liquid nightclub in Swindon. Miss Bowyer will model a gown and an outfit of her choice and be interviewed by the judges. To help her score she needs people to vote for her by phone or text.

She said: “My friends are being extremely supportive and have set up a big group on Facebook. I feel proud to be representing Devizes. I never expected to get through the heat so I’m really excited.”

If Miss Bowyer wins the county final she will go through to the semi final of Miss England. The winner of Miss England takes part in the Miss World competition.
