Corsham board hands out grant cash to groups


The Corsham Area Board has handed out nine community grants applications worth more than £15,000.

Councillors were unanimous in granting all nine applications to community groups in the Corsham area including Box Parish Council, which received £5,000 to refurbish its tennis courts and to create a multi use games area for people who use Box Pavilion, the tennis club and village school pupils.

Box Parish Council chairman Fred Sheppard said: “Not only is it a tennis court but t is also used by the youth club use it as a five aside pitch.

“However there are no lines marking out the pitch and the surface of both tennis courts is breaking up. The fencing has been cut by people over the years and we have patched it up and patched it up.

“This £5,000 grant will go towards the total costs of £15,000 to resurface and mark out the courts and also replace the fencing.”

The Pound arts centre has been granted £2,721 to buy a new high definition projector to attract a wider audience to cinema screenings.

Corsham Cricket Club is now able to install an external staircase leading to its changing rooms on the first floor with its £1,750 grant.

Corsham Town Council won a grant of £1,503 to buy shelters tables and chairs for community groups to use for free for outside and functions and community events.

The Kandu Arts group was granted £1,250 to organise a consultation with young people in Potley and Pockeridge about the problems, root causes and possible solutions to anti social behaviour.

Other grants include £995 to Transition Community Corsham to develop its website and publicity material, £975 to Mansion House Playgroup to buy a storage shed, £903 to Corsham Community Centre to buy equipment to enhance and develop a snooker room.

Potley Youth Group were also awarded £594 to buy tools, seeds and plants for a gardening project and a half term activity to promote and recruit new people to the community centre.
