Police have identified a 20-year-old man who broke his neck when he crashed his motorbike as he was being pursued by Wiltshire Police on July 1.
Kris Smart, from Pinehurst, is said to be responding well to treatment in hospital after the incident in Swindon.
The investigation into the crash, involving a police patrol car, is to be managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Wiltshire Police referred the matter to the IPCC on Wednesday.
Mr Smart fell from the bike in Poplar Avenue and was taken by ambulance to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.
He was diagnosed as having broken his neck in three places.
