Eisteddfod on hunt for a saviour

Devizes Junior Eisteddfod, one of the longest running youth arts festivals in Wiltshire, is in danger again after no one expressed an interest in running it.

The current director, Ken Morrison, is to stand down after this year’s event in November as he is going to be abroad during the following year’s festival, but he has been unable to find a successor.

At last year’s winners’ concert in Devizes Town Hall, composer Simon May, the festival’s patron, appealed for a new director to come forward but so far there have been no takers.

Mr Morrison hopes that the imminent disappearance of the popular competition will galvanise local music and art lovers. He said: “Are you the person to save Devizes Eisteddfod?

“It is a great day for the town and it means an awful lot to young people who can demonstrate their talent.”

The festival started in 1948 and has been running every year except in 2004.

Anyone interested in finding out more of what is involved should contact Mr Morrison on (01380) 812357.
