DEVIZES netball stalwart Trudie Procter has helped raise £1,000 for two charities after a fun tournament was staged on Sunday to give her a send off to a new life in France.

Ms Procter chose Julia's House children's hospice and Wiltshire Air Ambulance to benefit from the tournament held at Devizes Leisure Centre. She has been a member of Devizes Netball Club since 1984 and is admired as a player, coach and umpire.

She has passed her love for the game onto many children including those where she teaches at All Cannings.

Her friend and fellow club member Ella Harding, who organised the tournament, said: "We had a fabulous day in the sunshine on Sunday and raised over £1,000 for our charities.

"Trudie has loved all the teams she has played with at Devizes and her heart is currently with Devizes Falcons in the Moonraker League. Trudie is also a founder member of our Devizes TOGs Team (aka Trudies Old Girls) and we form usually for our summer league and tournaments when we can get together.

"Trudie has found coaching at her beloved village primary school her most rewarding achievement."

She is now planning to introduce netball to France.
