TWO runners suffering with dehydration were checked over at hospital despite yet another successful Corsham 10K in the sunshine this weekend.

Over 1,000 took part in the annual race on Sunday, which was won by serial champion Simon Knott, with 196 youngsters taking part in the fun run 2k dash beforehand.

"It was a really hot race this year and we did have a few falls and a few people who didn't get the times they wanted due to the heat, but overall it was brilliant," Alex Fogwill, race director said.

"We had enough first aid and we followed all the advice given out by England Athletics on the day.

"Aside from that it was a brilliant atmosphere. The kids really enjoyed the fun run and they loved being able to run through Lacock Road and into the razzmatazz of the football club in the end.

"Every year we try to improve and do something different and this year we introduced some fun signs and riddles, including one at the top of Jaggards Lane which we nicknamed Neston Summit."

Among the runners this year was Sharon Adkins, who was raising money for Dorothy House Hospice and CLIC Sargent who have been providing care and support for her 22-year-old daughter Natasha, who was diagnosed with stage four malignant melanoma,

"It was really hot but I managed to do it in one hour and 18 minutes and I didn;t walk once," she said. "I decided to run it with my daughter's boyfriend but our training was interrupted because Natasha had to go in for emergency surgery.

"Despite that, my family still managed to organise a surprise and as I was running, my cousin put their hand on my shoulder two kilometres in to surprise me and then ran the rest of the race with us."
