A FUN Easter egg hunt was held in Bowood’s rose garden involving four Wizzybug powered wheelchairs, seven children and lots of colourful eggs.

The Wizzybug was created by the charity Designability, based at the Royal United Hospital, Bath, which works to design useful products and technologies to help support people with disabilities or long-term illnesses.

With the cost of mobility equipment so high, Designability started fundraising to be able to loan Wizzybugs out free of charge to children who could benefit.

The charity identified the lack of NHS funding for powered mobility for children under five across the country.

To date, the scheme has helped over 540 children to access one of the fun, powered wheelchairs to be able to move and play independently.

Caroline Grange, of Designability: “It was great to see the children in their Wizzybugs together – it was the first time that any of them had seen another Wizzybug! Also their families were able to socialise – they swapped phone numbers so hope to meet up again”

The charity have a small workshop team building them all in Bath and funds are needed to build more Wizzybugs and provide appointments for children to be assessed for one.

Designability is looking for people to support it to reach 1,000 Wizzybugs. To find out more about the scheme, visit www.designability.org.uk or call 01225 824103.
