DESPITE the blizzard conditions affecting the county this week, hundreds of children turned up to school dressed as their favourite characters to mark World Book Day.

Some schools have visits from authors, such as Langley Fitzurse Primary near Chippenham which welcomed local writer Sophie Cleverley. The school hall was also transformed into a Peter Pan themed canteen at lunchtime.

Sadly some pupils missed out on the fun because of the school closures on Thursday, World Book Day itself, and Friday. Others sent the Gazette pictures of themselves in their outfits.
