A CHAMBER concert by Royal Wootton Bassett Academy Sixth Form musicians was a memorable finale to the first half of the spring term.

The performers were congratulated by Head of Music Mrs Liz Hodgson, who declared, "You were fabulous!"

The programme began with the Sixth Form Ensemble performance of the 4th Movement from Haydn's London Symphony.

This was followed by Kieran Potter, George Staten and Alexander Harris, in the 3rd Movement of Poulenc's Sonata for Horn, Trumpet and Trombone.

Ben Pope performed Sonata in F Minor by Scarlatti and a Waltz in B Minor by Chopin.

Vocalist Bethany Taylor gave a stunning rendition of Hallelujah! by Leonard Cohen, arranged and accompanied by Ben Pope. Violinist Clare Rabbitt played the haunting Remembrances from Schindler's List, and varied the mood sensitively with Elgar's Salut d'Amour and Aaron Copeland's Hoedown, from Rodeo. Kieran Potter, on trombone, then performed La Femme a Barbe by Berghmans and a Dance Sequence by Gareth Wood. Flautist Felicity Woolnough offered further variety with Concertino by Cecile Chaminade and Syrinx, by Claude Debussy. The concert ended with a selection of vocal numbers by accomplished singer Harry Apps, who performed La Lontananza by Donizetti, John Wellington Wells by Gilbert & Sullivan, Sea Fever, by Williams and ’Til I Hear You Sing by Webber.

Applause from the delighted audience expressed appreciation and warm wishes for the further success of these talented young musicians.
