VOLUNTEERS from Avon Valley Cotswold voluntary wardens got their hands dirty to help clear out Box Lower Common for the benefit of local wildlife.
The team of wardens, under the guidance of district chairman Richard Wilson, helped to remove scrub from the area leading to the Quarryman’s Arms last week.
The clearance now means that the horseshoe vetch plant, where rare Chalkhill Blue butterflies lay their eggs, will be able to thrive ahead of the eggs hatching in the spring.
A path leading to the pub was also widened for the benefit of the local community.
Rose Case, a Box Hill parish councillor, said: “I have been down and looked at the area they have cleared and it looks great.
“I wish to thank the Avon Valley Cotswold voluntary wardens and the other volunteers on behalf of Box Parish Council.”
The Cotswold voluntary wardens are keen to recruit new members to help carry out their work.
