A 21-YEAR-OLD man from Chippenham was arrested last night after police officers intercepted a suspected drugs deal.

Officers from the West and North Tasking Team have been developing intelligence around the drug supply in recent weeks and last night (Jan 11) officers spotted a possible drugs deal in the Derriads area of Chippenham.

One of the men, who tried to run off, was detained and found to have 38 wraps of cannabis, believed to be worth £710, scales, snap bags, £120 cash and a mobile phone.

He has since been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class B drugs and released under investigation while enquiries continue.

The second man, also aged 21, was issued with an adult caution for possession of cannabis.

Inspector Mark Luffman, of the North Wiltshire Community Policing Team, said: “This is a great result – officers from these teams have been carrying out a lot of intelligence building in relation to drug supply in the Chippenham, Melksham and Trowbridge areas, in recent weeks as they target individuals supplying drugs within our communities.

“A lot of policing work in relation to drugs goes on behind the scenes, and it is really important that the community continue to inform us of any suspected drug activity in their areas as this helps us build up an intelligence picture, which can prove crucial when these individuals are put before the courts.

“We completely understand the negative impact that drug dealing can have on a community and we are committed to tackling it – drugs can often lead to anti-social behaviour, violence and other criminal activity impacting on the wider community as well as those committing the crime.”
