DRIVERS have been urged to avoid flooded roads by Wiltshire and Dorset fire service after crews received a number of calls overnight and this morning from people stuck in flood water.
A tweet issued by Dorset and Wiltshire fire and rescue service stated: "Please, if you see any surface water, do not attempt to drive through and find an alternative route should you have to drive."
Damian Bence, of Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, said:“People need to take more care, not take the risk of driving in these areas and take a longer and safer route, as it can be very serious.”
A high wind warning was issued by the Met office for parts of Wiltshire including Chippenham and Devizes this morning as high winds were expected in these areas.
The Met office statement said: "A spell of strong winds is expected this morning. Some short term loss of power and other services is possible, as well as some delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges."
