THE JUBILEE Centre will be able to give extra special care to vulnerable older people this Winter after receiving two grants worth £1480.

Christmas cheer and festivity has been filling the hall over the last two weeks as school children visited to sing carols, hampers were given away and Father Christmas was expected to pay a visit.

A £1000 donation from Tesco's Bags of Help project will be used to fund trips out during 2018 and a cheque for £480 from Waitrose has been presented to the centre.

The money from Waitrose will be spent making sure that all of the care centre's clients will still see a friendly face and eat a hot meal between Christmas and New Year through its Meals on Wheels scheme.

Carol Walker, manager of the Jubilee Centre, said: “We make it a really festive time for everyone involved and we have lots of things going on.

“When I started in 2004 we went out for just one Christmas meal, but now we use that money instead to get school children into the centre and have three weeks of entertainment and festivity instead of just one meal.”

The Centre, on Marlborough High Street, provides care services, activities and company for older people living in and around the town.
