FUNDRAISER Joe Hughes who loves to make his house stand out at Christmas with ever more inventive displays of lights is pushing the boat out this year to raise money for the RNLI.

Mr Hughes, 61, who with his wife Jenny, has been decorating their home in Waylands, Devizes for 14 years has raised thousands of pounds for different charities in that time.

His huge display, which includes laser lights and giant Santas and reindeers, attracts people from far and wide to admire his endeavours.

He said his main motivator for doing the lights was to see the looks on children's faces when they visit but he was keen to also raise money for the charity which saves many lives every year.

Last year he raised he raised more than £500 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance and is hoping to receive a similar amount of donations this year for the life boats. In the past he has also supported Devizes Opportunity Centre.

Grandfather Mr Hughes said: "I love to see the joy on the children's faces. It makes it all worthwhile." He spends a huge amount of time each year preparing the houses for the switch-on but the result always makes it worthwhile.
