PANTO fun is coming to town in the Devizes as the traditional form of theatre is performed at The Wharf Theatre and Potterne Village Hall.

At The Wharf Treasure Island will be performed from Monday (11) until Saturday (16) every evening at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm.

The pantomime will be an opportunity for people to see the revamped theatre which was re-launched last month when deputy mayor Andy Geddes cut a ribbon to mark major refurbishment to the front of house, cloakrooms and green room areas.

Chairman Sarah Williams said: "The refurbishment has built upon the hard work of previous trustees who have made improvements to the infrastructure of the theatre and means the building is now fully modernised providing a warm, welcoming environment to theatre goers, actors, volunteers and the backstage crew."

She now hopes people will turn out in force to support the pantomime which features a number of Wharf stalwarts in leading roles including Merrily Powell and Lesley Scholes. To book tickets which cost £12 for adults and £10 for concessions with a discount for group bookings call in at Devizes Library or go to www.ticketsource.co.uk/the-wharf-theatre or by phone on 0333 666 3366.

Potterne based Flying Pizza Company will be performing close to home on January 13 when it brings Alice In Wonderland to the village hall at 2.30pm.

Karen Johnson from the company said: "Acted by Mark Wastell and Eliza Harris with song, dance, costume, lots of imagination and audience participation, the classic tale of Alice's magical journey is brought to vividly to life. Can Alice beat the Red Queen at croquet? Why do Cheshire cats grin? And how will little Alice ever find her way back home again? Find out when you join us for Alice's delightful dream journey."

Tickets for the family show cost £4 and are available on the door.
